Historical LandmarkThe Galleria II, home to Saks Fifth Avenue and Grille 5115, was recently recognized by the city of Houston as a historical landmark. Designed by the visionary and influential American architect Philip Johnson in 1976, the Galleria II features captivating spaces for business and entertainment. The Galleria was originally developed by Gerald Hines in 1970, and was modeled after the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in Milan, Italy. With the immediate popularity of the Galleria, Philip Johnson was commissioned to design the Galleria II, which added two stories of high-end retail businesses to the booming Houston social scene. There are, in fact, more Johnson buildings in Houston than in any other city, although his work can be enjoyed internationally from Dallas to New York to Bombay. |
